The Better Business Bureau’s Take on Acai Scams Online
Samantha Baskey asked:
You may not have read about it yet, but there has been a recent warning by the Better Business Bureau on online acai vitamins scams. These scams have been operating for a few years now and yet are now only exposed to the public after thousands of complaints.
Make sure you know about this important information before you buy acai from any online retailer.
So what´s this scam that has taken thousands of money from many buyers?
It’s the all too common offer you see on many websites – free bottle of acai supplements.
The BBB says thousands of people who have been scammed have called them to report many of these online companies.
These websites will usually make you believe you are only paying for shipping and handling to get the product free. What is almost invisible on their websites (it’s there. You’ll just have to hunt for it) is that this offer comes with a fine print.
By giving them your credit card number, they are also signing you up for a monthly supply of the product. This then gives them the opportunity to bill you every month thereafter for this subscription. If you don’t even know you’ve actually signed up for this, you’ll be very surprised the following month when a $90 bill from them arrives (yes. You read that right, $90!)
An even bigger problem arises after this initial shock though. A lot of people who have bought acai pills from these companies reported that trying to get these them to stop taking money out of their credit card month after month has been very difficult. They had to deal with non-existent phone numbers, rude customer support or a persistently busy phone.
It´s not all bad news though. There are reputable companies online where you could buy acai from. Just do your research and make sure you are buying from a legitimate company that also sells high grade products.
